§ 3. Terms of Office.

  • A.

    The mayor and eight (8) councilmen shall be elected by a majority vote for two (2) year terms and until their successors are elected, qualified and take office in the manner hereinafter provided. The mayor and one (1) councilman from each ward shall be elected for a two (2) year term at the regular city election to be held on the 1st Saturday in April of 1986 and at two (2) year intervals thereafter. One (1) councilman from each of the four (4) wards shall be elected at the regular city election to be held on the 1st Saturday in April of 1987 and at two (2) year intervals thereafter.

    B.

    All qualified voters of the city shall be entitled to vote for the mayor. No voter may vote for any candidate to be a councilman in any ward unless such voter is a qualified voter and a resident of such ward.

    C.

    The boundary lines for each ward have previously been established and shall hereinafter be periodically review by the city council and amended if legally necessary, or ordinance to comply with all applicable laws.

    D.

    The current mayor and each incumbent member of the city council shall continue in their respective capacities and hold office for the balance of the two (2) year terms for which each was elected as follows:

    E.

    All candidates shall satisfy requirements of Texas Election Code in order to have their name placed on the ballot.
