§ 34-223. Refusal to return library materials.

  • (a)

    Refusal to return library books or other items with a two-week checkout period within 30 days from the due date after three written notices requesting return of the books or items enables the librarian to sign a letter of complaint against the person responsible for the overdue items.

    (b)

    Any person who intentionally, knowingly, recklessly or as a result of criminal negligence fails to respond to the letter of complaint within ten days of receipt by returning the books or items to the library and paying the appropriate fines or replacement cost of the material commits a misdemeanor offense punishable as provided in section 1-15.

    (c)

    Any person who intentionally or knowingly defaces, damages or destroys any library books, tapes, materials or city property in custody of the library commits a misdemeanor criminal offense punishable by a fine not to exceed $500.00 as provided in section 1-15.
